Dear Prince Turki Al-Faisal,

Dear Prince Turki Al-Faisal,

I really respect your opinion but in the same time I fully disagree with what you have said regard the US energy independence. I think assuming that people of any nation will depend on our oil forever is fallacious and unreal assumption especially with all the technologies and great science we have today.

Decades ago, we thought it is impossible for people to land on the moon. Now, we laugh at ourselves for being close-minded.  Please, Mr. Al-Fasial, we don’t want the history to be repeated again with the same mistake. We have to realize the fact that one day we will run out of oil and other nations are working very hard to find another sources of the energy other than our oil.

  2. True, true.

Natural resources like petroleum aren’t always going to be here tomorrow, so countries like yours that don’t have much natural resources must find other ways to cope before the oil is gone.

The US doesn’t want to depend that much on foreign oil and we can’t blame it for that.

  3. coralbead,
saudi arabia has no plan whatsoever for the future when we run out of oil,,
i guess we leave the problem for the next generation to carry it on their back!

  4. If taken at face value Turki Al-Faisal is right. The US cannot gain energy independence over the short haul. What was odd about his answer is that he seemed so defensive as if there is some kind of conspiracy to stop Saudi Arabia from making money.

A more energy efficient West would be a benefit to Saudi Arabia. If nothing else it would give you guys longer time to figure out what to do when your cash cow dies.
