Saudi Women and The World

“(Saudi) Young women bloggers are fabulous” said Kirsten Powers in talking about her trip to Saudi Arabia. I have to say that I am so proud of Saudi women who blog, who speak up, who expose their identity, who show their disagreement or agreement about global, political and social issues, who show their feminism, their faiths, their thoughts and creativities so openly. I am so proud of Saudi women who hold a camera and take  photographic pictures and share it with the world in Flickr. I am so proud of Saudi women who hold a pen and write about philosophy, literature, psychology in the newspaper. I am so proud of Saudi women who tweet in Twitter about the lovely voice of their mothers, the romance of their husbands, the funny stories of their children and about everything concern their lives.

And that is why I believe that Saudi women aren’t in anyway less intelligent, creative, caring, beautiful than the rest of world’s women. I wrote this post as a respond to one of my American friend’s question  about why do so many Saudi guys, whom she met here in US, find American women are more attractive, beautiful and intelligence than Saudi women. Well, the answer is that I can’t speak on their behalf, I think they have the right to speak about their personal opinions and preferences. But I also would like to speak about my personal opinion, I find Saudi women are very attractive, beautiful, intelligent, intellectual and creative. and that is why I think I am going to marry a Saudi woman.

By the way, just so that you don’t confuse my personal opinion with my stand on foreign marriage. I strongly believe that Saudi men should have the freedom to  marry whoever they like from wherever they like, but I also believe that Saudi women should have that freedom too. There are so many handsome, romantic and intelligent  foreigners out there who want to marry Saudi women. So, let’s be fair on that.

    Nice Murtadha, but your description of the Saudi woman, open and progressive, makes her more like an American woman, a hard to find in a strict society like ours, and makes the few Saudi women who publicly express their opinions and reveal themselves to the world real happy… Same things should be said about Saudi men who are critic, progressive and reformers despite restrictions and limitations…

    ‘I find Saudi women are very attractive, beautiful, intelligent, intellectual and creative.’

    yes, they are…

  3. I originally found the discussion in the video was annoyingly superficial, but at the end some good points were made.

    Hopefully each person marries someone they are sympatico and in love with, have shared core values, and similar core goals and aspirations, whether they share the same nationality, ethnicity, or religion (within the confines of their own religious beliefs and mandates).

    Nice topic and expression of it.

  4. @Hala,
    Yes, I agree, and what impress more is that Saudi women were able to show their talents despite the social restriction

    @islamicarticles,
    The video is working above! try it again from different browser

    @suraya,
    Thank you for sharing your thought here, You should start blogging Suraya so that people get to know the inside life of Saudi woman

    @Chiara
    I know, the panel discussion is annoying, it is as if they know everything about Saudi.
    As for marriage, I totally agree with you, I don’t think love should be confined or limited to one nationality. I really hope that we have more diversified society where there are people with multiculture parents.

  5. I enjoyed your thoughts on this and I agree. There are lovely and wonderful people in all nationalities!

    As for this:

    “I wrote this post as a respond to one of my American friend’s question about why do so many Saudi guys, whom she met here in US, find American women are more attractive, beautiful and intelligence than Saudi women.”

    I wonder if it has to do with the Saudi guys being restricted from talking with women in their own countries and thus they cannot discover what lovely, intelligent women are just next door. In the US they can talk freely with women and thus it seems they fall for the American gals. Perhaps if the Saudis were able to talk freely with women back home things would be different.

    Also I think sometimes people are attracted to those who are different from everybody back home. It’s just some sort of excitement. I know people here tend to like men with foreign accents (like movie stars from the UK for instance) so maybe it’s partly just the excitement of seeing women with different colored hair and different accents and so forth. What do you think?

  6. This is a very common thing practiced by most news channels. A bunch of news reporters sit together to discuss Saudi Arabia annoyingly and arrogantly making whatever remarks that come in their mind.

  7. @susanne430,
    yes, I agree with you. It is the desire for different culture, different mentality, different understanding of life and love that really drive us to marry someone outside of our own culture. I find that too attractive to me.

    Where can I find a Saudi woman who “…is very attractive, beautiful, intelligent, intellectual and creative” wallahi, I would marry her in a heart beat..I’ve been looking for a woman like this for 13 years. Some I can connect with on spiritual, emotional, intellectual, social and physical level.
